Rural Retreats in the Highlands

The Cairngorms National Park is popular for many sports and sporting activities such as skiing, rock climbing and ice climbing. The mountains are home to many rare plants, birds and animals including red deer, mountain hare and even the only herd of reindeer in the British Isles. The straths and glens of the national park feature a type of ancient woodland known as the Caledonian forest. The expanse of pinewood that stretches from Glen Feshie to Abernethy forms the largest single area of this habitat remaining in Scotland, and the park as a whole holds more than half the surviving Caledonian forest. Rural Retreats offer the cream of luxury holiday properties throughout the Scottish Highlands, the UK and Ireland. Each of the self-catering country houses, former lighthouse keeper's cottages and holiday cottages are carefully selected to meet exceptionally high standards. Many are buildings of historical importance, beautifully and imaginatively restored and refurbished throughout. All of them are close to the coast or nestle deep within some of this country’s most beautiful countryside. You only have to open the door of your chosen holiday hideaway and you will immediately see what’s so special about Rural Retreats. The good quality furnishings, an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness, a hamper on the kitchen table waiting to welcome you, a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge, a log fire waiting to be lit and an ample supply of fresh towels and quality toiletries – these are some of the ingredients of a perfect, well earned break in the Scottish Highlands.
